Sadie's Fifth Birthday

This November 14th, which is Sadie's 5th birthday, our family will continue our tradition of celebrating and honoring Sadie by volunteering and donating to an organization that benefits children. This year we will be volunteering with the Charlotte Migrant Assistance Project (M.A.P.), a group that provides food, clothing and toiletries to asylum-seeking Central American migrants recently released from detention centers in Texas. The migrants travel by bus to family or friends along the East Coast and stop in Charlotte for a brief layover, often with nothing more than the clothes on their back. That's where M.A.P. steps in. The organization also provides resources to migrants staying in Charlotte and education to the local community about the experience and challenges faced by migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. Due to the current Remain in Mexico policy mandating asylum seekers arriving at ports of entry on the U.S.-Mexico border to return to Mexico to wait for the duration of their U.S. immigration proceedings, the number of asylum seekers travelling to or through Charlotte has recently declined. Because of this, M.A.P. currently has adequate resources to serve the reduced number of asylum-seeking migrants in Charlotte, so we will be making our donation in honor of Sadie to Team Brownsville this year. Team Brownsville, based in Brownsville, Texas, crosses the U.S-Mexico border each day to feed up to 1,000 asylum seekers waiting in Mexico for entry into the U.S. For more information about Team Brownsville and/or to make a donation in honor of Sadie, click on the following link: https://www.teambrownsville.org/.

Thank you to everyone who continues to remember Sadie, our brave and sweet little girl who we miss and love so very much.
